What is Data URI Decoder & Encoder?

Data URI Tool provides dual-mode processing for RFC 2397 data: URIs. In Decode mode, it parses MIME types and extracts payload content, rendering live visual previews for images (PNG, SVG, JPEG, WebP) and plain text for markup and code. In Encode mode, it converts local files up to 5MB into Base64 data URIs ready for embedding directly into HTML, CSS, or JSON.

How to use Data URI Decoder & Encoder

  1. 1Choose Decode to inspect an existing data URI, or Encode to convert a local file.
  2. 2In Decode mode, paste a data: URI to view its MIME type, decoded content, and image preview.
  3. 3In Encode mode, drag and drop or select a file (up to 5MB) to generate its Base64 data URI, then click Copy.

Key features

Dual Decode & Encode Support

Easily switch between parsing existing data URIs and generating new data URIs from local files.

Inline Image Previews

Automatically detects image MIME types and renders an inline visual preview of decoded images.

Handles Base64 & Percent Encoding

Accurately decodes both base64-encoded payloads and percent-encoded text data URIs.

Local File Processing Up to 5MB

Encodes images, SVGs, and documents up to 5MB into data URIs without uploading files anywhere.

Examples & use cases

Decode SVG Data URI

Extracts markup from a plain or percent-encoded SVG data URI

Input:
data:image/svg+xml,<svg><circle r="10"/></svg>
Result:
<svg><circle r="10"/></svg>

Decode Base64 Plain Text Data URI

Extracts decoded plain text from a Base64 data URI

Input:
data:text/plain;base64,SGVsbG8gV29ybGQ=
Result:
Hello World
