Image DPI & Print Size Calculator

Calculate the physical print dimensions of an image in inches and centimeters from its pixel resolution and DPI, or find the required pixel dimensions for any print size.

All mathematical calculations run strictly in client-side JavaScript. Zero inputs are sent over the network.

How to use Image DPI & Print Size Calculator

  1. 1Select your calculation mode: "Pixels → Print size" or "Print size → Pixels".
  2. 2If converting pixels to print size, enter your image width and height in pixels along with your printer DPI (default: 300).
  3. 3If calculating required pixels, enter target print width and height in inches and specify target DPI.
  4. 4Review the computed dimensions in inches, centimeters, or required pixel resolutions.

Key features

Bidirectional Calculation Modes

Convert pixels to physical print dimensions (inches and cm), or calculate required pixel dimensions from target print sizes.

Standard & Custom DPI Settings

Calculate for 300 DPI (photo print quality), 150 DPI (posters), 72/96 DPI (screens), or custom printer resolutions.

Dual Metric and Imperial Outputs

Displays physical print dimensions in both inches and centimeters simultaneously.

Instant Real-Time Math

Updates calculation results immediately as inputs change, with clean mathematical rounding.

Examples & use cases

Digital Camera Photo to 300 DPI Print Size

Calculate physical print dimensions of a 24-megapixel photo at standard lab quality.

Input:
Width: 6000 px, Height: 4000 px, DPI: 300
Result:
Print Size: 20.00 × 13.33 inches (50.80 × 33.86 cm)

A4 Photo Print Required Pixel Dimensions

Find required pixel resolution to print on standard A4 paper at 300 DPI.

Input:
Width: 8.27 inches, Height: 11.69 inches, DPI: 300
Result:
Required Resolution: 2481 × 3507 pixels

Web Graphic at 72 DPI vs 300 DPI Print

Compare physical print size of Full HD resolution at screen density vs photo print density.

Input:
Width: 1920 px, Height: 1080 px, at 72 DPI vs 300 DPI
Result:
At 72 DPI: 26.67 × 15.00 in; At 300 DPI: 6.40 × 3.60 in

Frequently asked questions

DPI stands for Dots Per Inch, representing printer dot density. Higher DPI means more dots per inch and sharper prints. 300 DPI is the universal standard for fine art and commercial photographic printing.
Print Size (inches) = Pixels / DPI. Print Size (cm) = (Pixels / DPI) * 2.54. Required Pixels = ceil(Print Size in inches * DPI).
No. DPI is simply metadata that instructs a printer how densely to space pixels. An image with 3000×2000 pixels contains the exact same data whether tagged at 72 DPI or 300 DPI; only the physical print size changes.
Use 300 DPI for hand-held reading (books, magazines, photos); 150–200 DPI is sufficient for posters viewed from 1–2 meters; 72–100 DPI is common for large billboards viewed from far away.
