JSON Patch Tool

Generate the JSON Patch operations that transform one document into another, or apply a JSON Patch to mutate documents.

JSON diff and patch calculations run locally via fast-json-patch with zero network transmission.

What is JSON Patch Tool?

JSON Patch Tool provides dual-mode support for RFC 6902 operations. In Generate mode, it computes the minimal sequence of atomic operations (add, remove, replace, move, copy) required to transform one JSON document into another. In Apply mode, it executes patch arrays against base documents to calculate the resulting JSON. Essential for RESTful HTTP PATCH APIs.

How to use JSON Patch Tool

  1. 1Select Generate patch to create diffs, or Apply patch to execute operations.
  2. 2In Generate mode, paste your Before and After JSON documents to view operations.
  3. 3In Apply mode, paste your Base document and JSON Patch array to view the mutated document.

Key features

Dual Generate & Apply Modes

Compute patch diffs between two JSON states or test applying patches to documents.

RFC 6902 Standards Compliant

Generates standard operation objects with op, path, and value parameters.

Interactive Error Diagnostics

Validates patch syntax and alerts you to invalid paths or conflicting operations.

In-Browser Local Processing

All comparison and patching runs locally in JavaScript without uploading data.

Examples & use cases

Generate Replace & Add Patch

Computing the diff between two version states

Input:
Before: {"name":"Alice","age":30}
After: {"name":"Alice","age":31,"city":"Mumbai"}
Result:
[
  {
    "op": "replace",
    "path": "/age",
    "value": 31
  },
  {
    "op": "add",
    "path": "/city",
    "value": "Mumbai"
  }
]

Frequently asked questions

JSON Patch sends only the exact modifications needed, drastically reducing network payload size in REST APIs and preventing accidental overwrites in concurrent environments.
The specification supports six operations: add, remove, replace, move, copy, and test.
